Growing up in The Bahamas with a turquoise sea, and a wide, white sand beach as playground, was perfect a grounding in the beautiful magic of island life as any child could imagine.

Education from 5 to 16 was Bahamian and North American centered thanks to home life, and to Xavier’s College, which was run by the Sisters of Charity of Mount St Vincent: a teaching order of white robed nuns with a profound faith in both the universality of Roman Catholicism and in the significance of women in the wider world. A small number of Bahamian of beloved lay teachers managed our feet firmly on the ground and our eyes open to the delights of island life.   

A new world opened for me with A level studies at the remarkable Government High School. During this time, a series of lectures deepened my curiosity about our geographic region that directed me to UWI (the University of the West Indies) which in turn, cemented a lifelong fascination with the history and promise of the region.

The irony in all this grounding was that life had other ideas, because marriage to a proverbial ‘dashing cavalry officer’ resulted in a busy family life that revolved around a somewhat peripatetic schedule of the year divided between homes in Gstaad in the Swiss Alps, the UK and Nassau. During those years, I also created a luxury resort wear cum jewelry line (Jeannie McQueeny) and helped my husband in the formation of The Bahamas Reef Environment Educational Foundation (BREEF), both of which I’m happy to say, are still in operation.

The death of my husband brought me full circle, back to Nassau. An interest in our vibrant Real Estate market is a natural outcome of my life experiences. Being a ‘people person’ and having lived in different parts of the world imbued in me an intuitive sense of what kind of neighborhood, and home, will suit individual clients. There’s a particular sense of achievement as clients become friends, who are even more delighted years after a purchase than at the outset.

Life as a Real Estate has allowed me to incorporate the ideas and beliefs that have inspired me since childhood: the beauty of our natural environment, the charm and creativity of our people; the stability of our governmental system and a desire to share in the development of ‘The Isles of June’. The fact that HG Christie also embodies these qualities has made it feel like the perfect fit for me.
