Located just 21 miles west of Chicago, in Cook and DuPage counties, is the affluent community of Hinsdale. Bestowed with a rich heritage, Old World charm, and a welcoming atmosphere, this beautiful tree-lined village is replete with historic architecture, upscale shops, cultural attractions, numerous recreational opportunities, and superb services.

Dating to 1862, the village was founded by William Robbins, “The Father of Hinsdale,” who purchased 6,400 acres of land to develop the tranquil community. After the completion of the Chicago and Aurora Railroad, Hinsdale became popular as an enclave for Chicago’s upper middle classes because of its convenient and beautiful pastoral location. In 1897, an article in Campbell’s Illustrated Journal, established the village as one of Chicago’s most desirable suburbs, a distinction which still stands.

Today, Hinsdale covers an area of just five square miles and although the population has grown over the years, from just 500 to 18,000, the village has kept its unique atmosphere, lovely tree-shaded streets, and elegant homes, which are renowned for their architectural and historical significance. Among the remarkable variation of architectural styles are Queen Anne, Romanesque Revival, Tudor Revival, Colonial Revival, Gothic Revival, Shingle, Prairie, and American Craftsman.

The residents of Hinsdale enjoy a vital, business community complete with services and organizations, boutiques and antique shops, gourmet restaurants, art fairs, holiday festivals, and recreational options. Hinsdale prides itself on its high performing public school district and excellent health and wellness services, such as Hinsdale Hospital and The Robert Crown Center, the nation’s first health education center.
